Shamanic Mist
Shamanic Mist comes from the tradition of Agua de Florida, one of the most widely used preparations in South American spiritual and ceremonial traditions.
The Tradition
Traditionally, Agua de Florida is used to prepare a person, object, or space for spiritual work. People use it before ceremony, after difficult situations, when moving into a new home, or simply as part of a regular practice. It is commonly used for cleansing, blessing, protection, and helping people shift from the busyness of everyday life into a more focused and intentional state.
The version I make today comes through my teacher, Claudio Silvano. Over many years he adapted the traditional preparation to be gentler and more pleasant for regular use while keeping the character, scent, and purpose of Agua de Florida intact.
The recipe was passed on to me by my teacher and I continue to make it today.
I use Shamanic Mist regularly myself. Over the years it has become one of those simple tools that always seems to find its place.
Making the Mist
The making itself is a monthly ritual.
Each batch is prepared here in Perth during the full moon. Before making it, I open a ceremonial space and take time to settle myself. The process is unhurried and done with full attention.
Once prepared, the mist is left under the full moon for twenty-four hours before it is bottled and used.
For me, the making is part of the work. It is time set aside to slow down, focus, and prepare something that will be used throughout the month in ceremonies, workshops, and daily life.
How It Is Used
People use Shamanic Mist in different ways:
Applied to the body as part of a cleansing practice
Used to freshen and clear a room
Sprayed around an altar or ritual space
Used to cleanse objects before ceremony
Added to bath water as part of a personal practice
You do not need to follow a particular belief system to use it. Like most things I work with, I encourage people to experiment and find their own relationship with it.
